week beginning 4th January 2015

Welcome back and Happy New Year! This week we are introducing poetry, with a focus on rhyming words. The children have been learning what makes a successful rhyme and identifying rhyming pairs in well-known nursery rhymes. We will also be rhyming names and everyday objects to help the children become used to the sound of the repetition of similar sounds in rhyme. In maths we are learning our number bonds to 10 and will be recording these as number sentences as the week progresses. As part of this we will also be concentrating on correct formation of numbers in our maths. Our topic for this term is Buildings and to introduce this the children will be walking around parts of Old Catton to observe the different buildings, and materials used in their construction, here. Our PE lessons will take place on Monday and Thursday afternoons, so please ensure that your child has a full PE kit at school, including hair bands or tape to cover earrings, if required. We will be covering games, and learning to play tri-golf this term.
