25th June 2018

Wow- what a wonderful time we have at Africa Alive! We hope the children enjoyed it as much as the adults did. We were really lucky with the weather and it was a fun filled day.

This week in English the children have been writing recounts on their trip to Africa Alive. We have been using time words to sequence the days events such as in the morning, first, next, after, at the end of the day and were beginning to use adjectives and conjunctions to make our writing more exciting.

In maths we have been learning all about place value using arrow cards. We know that a two digit number (e.g. 12) is made up of the digits 1 and 2 but that the 1 is worth 10 and the 2 is worth 2. We have been recording this as a number sentence - 10 + 2 = 12. This will help the children with their transition into year 2. As part of your home learning you could practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s up to 100. You could also play a game of fizz buzz (the children will be able to teach you how to play this!) You could also talk about numbers you see out and about- for example if you live at number 52 you could talk about the fact that this is a 2 digit number made up of the digits 5  and 2 but that the 5 if worth 50 and the 2 is worth 2.

We are continuing to learn our special dance in PE and when the weather allows will be outside. Please remember to always have a PE kit in school and some suitable shoes to wear outside- thank you.

The eggs are due to hatch on Sunday evening / Monday morning and we are all very excited!! We still have some squares left on our 100 square board so please come and see a member of staff if you'd like a square for just £1- you could win £30! We will pick one lucky winner next week once the eggs have hatched.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be really busy with assessments and rehearsals for the end of year concert. We try and read with every child at least once a week but please be patient with us over the next couple of weeks. Please remember that the children can change their own reading and sharing books at any time.
