Week beginning 30th October

Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely half term break. Please remember to send us in any photos of your travels across the UK- you are welcome to email these to Mrs Ellis at     rellis37ru@nsix.org.uk

In English this week we have been listening to poems about fireworks. We have been describing fireworks using onomatopoeia words (sound words) and created a class poem. We have also learnt about the villain Guy Fawkes and the reason as to why we have a celebration on November 5th each year.

In maths we have been comparing lengths- longest and shortest and beginning to use rulers to measure in centimeters and also to draw straight lines. As part of your home learning this week you could compare the length of different toys- can children find a toy which is longer than their hand and one which is shorter? They could also have a go at drawing lines with a ruler to create a picture.

This week your child will be bringing home a Home Learning book. This book is a practice book where children can have a go at writing phonic words, tricky words, writing sentences and include any maths work that is completed at home. This book does not need to be returned to school and can be kept at home.
On the front of this book are the passwords and login details for Purple Mash and Education City- both have a variety of games and activities on. Inside there is:

  •  a full list of phonic sounds the children will be taught this year
  • a complete list of tricky words we would like the children to be able to read and spell by the end of the year
  • an example of how to form lower case letters correctly
  • a reading homework menu
We hope you find this book useful in supporting your children with their home learning.

Big Talk
Starting this week we will be sending home a Big Talk. For this we would like you to talk! This week we sent a picture and some ideas to help your discussion.

We would like to invite you all to our first reading event next Thursday morning (9th November) in the school hall at 9am. It will last no longer than 45 minutes and parents, caters, grandparents and siblings are all welcome.

If your child is taking part in a sports after school club please remember to send them with an extra PE kit or to return their kit the following day. Mrs Prophet's class PE is usually on a Tuesday and Mrs Ellis's class is usually on a Wednesday.
