Week beginning 27th November

This we week we say goodbye to Miss Morton and Miss Mead. They are both going on to different schools to continue their teacher training and we look forward to them coming back in the summer term!

This week in English we have continued to look at the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We have looked at letters- why we write letters and what they may be used for. All the children have written letters to characters in the story including one to the old man and one to the giant. Within these we asked  questions including, 'why did the magic beans grow into a giant beanstalk?' and 'where did you get the colourful magic beans from?'.
The children were encouraged to use exciting adjectives within their writing such as 'the giant beanstalk' and 'the colourful magic beans'.

This week in Maths we have been recapping addition and subtraction. As part of your home learning you could carry out some of the practical games and activities in we used in our maths event such as...

  • playing skittles
  • any board game which involved counting on or back
  • playing shops and adding two amounts together or giving change from an amount
  • worded questions such as- 'If I have 10sweets and eat 3 how many will I have left?'

We have also looked at number bonds to ten and different ways two numbers can be added to make ten. For example-
1+9=10
2+8=10
