18th June 2018

This week we had a skeleton dancing in the classroom! Luckily we managed to catch them on camera doing a very funny dance. The children then collected the bones Mr Bones had left and measured them in cm using a ruler. We were really impressed at how well the children remembered how to use a ruler and how to measure accurately! The children were also great at measuring each other- we drew an outline of each other and then measured different parts of the body in centimeters (cm).

This week we will also be looking at 1 more / 1 less. As part of your home learning you could give your child a number up to 100 and ask them- what it 1 more than this? What is 1 less? **As a challenge you could ask them what is 10 more and 10 less!** You can use a number line or 100 square to help them remembering to jump forwards for 1 more and backwards for 1 less.

In English we are thinking about recounts- retelling events that have happened in the past. The children have all written about what they did at the weekend (and haven't they been busy!) We will be using what we have learnt about recounts to write about when the skeleton came to visit later on in the week.

This week we were also really lucky to have two teachers from Hellesdon High School come in and do a Beauty and the Beast drama workshop with the year one children. They had a fantastic time learning songs and acting out the different characters and the teachers were very impressed with their creativity!

On Friday we have our very exciting trip to Africa Alive. A few things to remember...

  • Children need to wear school uniform and sensible shoes
  • Apply sun cream before they come to school
  • Bring a packed lunch (unless they have ordered a school packed lunch)
  • Bring a drink (not fizzy)
  • No spending money is needed
  • Children need to be at school at the normal time of 8.55am
  • We will be back at school by around 6pm
