Hi! Welcome to our Year One blog.
This week we have been reading and joining in with our new text: The Treasure of Pirate Frank.
Surprise! Were you expecting Captain Sally Frank? |
We all went in the hall and joined in with the repeated phrases from the story. Then we used our drama skills to imagine being on an adventure. Which was your favourite place to visit?
We had so much fun exploring an imaginary world! |
This week in Maths we have been learning about subtraction. We have explored this by taking objects away from a set and by learning to draw jottings to help. We can write number sentences too!
Our last Maths event was a great success; thank you for all of your help. We hope you enjoyed having some time together to explore adding and subtracting. Keep an eye out on the newsletter for when our next event is!
If you would like some ideas for your home learning... here we go:
- make a treasure map! label different places such as stinky swamp and creepy caves
- go to the library and see if you can find any pirate books
- play a number game such as snakes & ladders
- go on Purple Mash or Education City to play some learning games
- make a pirate puppet to take on an adventure around your home e.g. "up the stairs, round the laundry basket, past the ferocious wild tiger (cat!) etc.
- make a model ship and see if it will float. Can it hold one of your small toys? Or could you add coins to see how many it can hold?
- learn a joke or poem about pirates off by heart
- write a joke or poem about pirates
- or... any other fabulous ideas you have. Do share your ideas with us!
