week commencing:23rd November

This week we have continued our work with Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have been discussing how the different characters might feel and the reasons for this. They have been writing to the bears on behalf of Goldilocks to say sorry! In maths the children have carried on with learning about time. We have been reading and making clocks showing either an hour or half-past time and some children have begun problem solving with time. In PE we have continued with our gym, focussing on balancing, making shapes and rolls as well as looking how to end a move successfully. Our third design and technology lesson involves the completion of our project and the children are learning how to safely use saws and glue guns, amongst other tools to help them bring their designs to life. Just a reminder that the next big book share is on Monday 30th November in the afternoon - we hope to see you there!

Week beginning 16th November 2015

This week we have introduced the traditional tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have acted out the story and have been discussing how they would feel if someone ate their food and broke their chairs! In maths we have introduced time - we have been focussing on understanding how time is used as a form of measurement and the different units of time. We have also looked at sequencing our days through morning, afternoon, evening and night time. As the week progresses we will be looking at the features of clocks and making the time. Could we ask everyone to try and help their child(ren) read at least 3 times a week at home - any extra is great, but just the three reads makes a huge difference to their reading development. Please could you also encourage your child to complete their homework independently each week as this will help consolidate their learning. Homework is usually sent home on a Friday and they have a week to complete this in so it can be broken down into smaller amounts if this helps them to complete it.

Week commencing 9th November 2015

This week we have continued with our Jack and the Beanstalk story. The children have been discussing what they would see if they went to the top of the beanstalk and are writing about it through the week. In maths, we have introduced money. The children heard how Jack had hidden all of the Giant's money and over the week they have been following clues to find specified coins. They have also been playing dice games, bingo and dominoes to help them identify the different coins and notes. Tomorrow is Children In Need Day and we will be holding a non-uniform day in support of this. Participation is completely voluntary and are asking for a donation of £1.50 towards the charity for any child choosing to come out of uniform.

Week commencing 2nd November 2015

This week we have been reading the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have heard different versions of the story and discovered that a beanstalk had grown in the classroom overnight. They had a visit from a Giant who left them a note and so we went on a Giant hunt around the school to try and find him. We also and re-enacted the story, focussing on how each character felt at different points in the story. The children sequenced the story and created their own story map to show the order of events and then wrote about what they might find at the top of their own beanstalk. In maths we have been learning about measuring length. We have introduced the idea of a fair measure and used this to compare the lengths of different objects before sorting them into order. The children have learnt about non-standard units of measurement and have practised using a range of different non-standard units to measure objects from around the classroom as well as their own foot. In topic we have begun a three lesson sequence on design and technology; however we can't give you any further details as the children are working on a surprise for you!! In PE we have started teaching gym - this term our PE lessons will be on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Please can you make sure that your child has a PE kit in school every week and send in hairbands or tape if your child has long hair or wears earrings - these are needed for their safety during these lessons. Parent/Teacher interviews are coming up soon - please see one us to book your time if you have not already done so.
