Week beginning 27th March 2017

This week has been book week. The children have enjoyed our daily book swaps where they get the choose from 6 different books each day and go to different classrooms to listen to them being read by the different teachers.

In year one we have been reading the book Everyone Loves Underpants. We have written a book review, designed our own underpants, created and labelled an alien and designed some underpants for our favourite book characters using adjectives.

Over the holidays we would like the children to write a book review on any book they read. We have also included some phonics words to practice- remember it is really important for the children to sound out each word before reading it back.

Tomorrow is dress up day and we ask that the children come in dressed as their favourite book character.

Have a lovely Easter break and please remember to keep reading.

Week beginning 20th March

We would like to thank everyone that came to our year one Reading Cafe. We hope you enjoyed reading the instructions with your child and making the origami frogs.

This week the children have continued to look at the story of the Frog Prince. They have been fantastic at using adjectives to describe different nouns. They have learnt that nouns name a person, place or thing and that adjectives are words which describe these. The children have been sequencing the story and writing a short version to include the beginning, middle and end.

The children have been working very hard this week as we have been completing maths assessments, reading assessment and phonic checks. We are sorry if we have not had time to read with all children.

Please remind children to hand their homework in every Wednesday so it can be marked and new homework added.

Next week is Book Week. Each day we will be completing activites relating to books and on Friday the children can dress up as any book character they wish to.

The Book Fair is now in school and is open from 830-930am and 3-330pm. The Book Fair is here until Tuesday 28th March.

Tuesday 28th March is our Open Afternoon (2-330pm) and cake sale to raise money for The Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind. Please come in and have a look at all of the hard work your children have been doing.

This Friday we are raising money for Comic Relief by having a non-uniform day. There is a suggested donation of £1.

Week beginning 6th March 2017

This week in English we have been looking at different castles from around the UK and creating our very own fact books which the children have really enjoyed. We have looked at Caernarfon Castle in Wales, Carrickfergus Castle in Northern Ireland, Norwich Castle in England and Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. These will be in the children's topic books which you will be able to look through at our next open afternoon which is 28th March from 2pm.

In maths we have been recapping on addition and subtraction and how to complete number sentences using a number line. We would like you to encourage your children to complete their maths homework using the number line. They have to start at the biggest number and jump up to add on and jump back to take away.

In topic we will be starting our D&T project this week where the children will be designing and making their own model castle.

Week beginning 27.2.2017

This week we have been really busy creating a new castle display for the classrooms. The children have all participated in drawing and painting different parts of the display which will soon be ready for you to see. We have also been busy learning the different parts of the castles and the children will all design and label their own castles. We have been thinking about the important things which help to keep enemies out such as having a moat around the castle, a portcullis to stop enemies entering the castle and battlements for soldiers to hide behind. In maths we have been recapping on addition and subtraction, our number bonds to 10 and also started to look at number bonds to 20 (two numbers which add up to 20- e.g. 12 + 8 = 20). This half term our PE lessons will be on Mondays and Tuesdays and we will be learning about tri-golf. This week we learnt about a putter and chipper, how to hold these correctly and how to stand safely. Our Year One Reading Event will be in the school hall Monday 20th March at 2pm. Please remember to send us in any photos of your children visiting different places around the UK. If you are unable to print them please send us an original copy which we can photocopy or you can email them to Mrs Ellis at rellis37ru@nsix.org.uk with the name of the child and the place you have visited.
