This week the children have worked extremely hard performing in the summer concerts. We hope that you have all enjoyed watching the children and appreciate how hard they have worked this year.
All of the children have created their own story this week and we have been finishing off lots of jobs.
Next Monday 10th is our trip to Catton Park and we have lots of exciting activities planned. Please send the children in normal school uniform and sensible shoes or trainers. They will need to bring a packed lunch (unless they have ordered one), a bottle of water and light rain coat. They will not need to bring their book bags on Monday.
Thursday 13th is the start of Sports Week- please can all children come in to school in their PE kits.

Week beginning 26th June 2017
This week in English we are reading the story 'What Ever Next' by Jill Murphy. This is a story about a bear who goes into space in a cardboard box. This week the children are creating their own characters, setting and adventure to write their own story.
In maths we have been recapping on addition and subtraction, time, money and shape. At home please continue counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and recognising higher numbers.
This week the children will be rehearsing for next weeks concerts.

Week beginning 12th June
This week in English we have read the story of The Snail and the Whale by Julie Donaldson. We have been teaching the children about verbs - doing words and found these within the story. We have also talked about past tense verbs which end in -ed (e.g. walked, splashed, jumped) and used these to write a post card for a journey which we have been on.
In maths we have been recapping addition and subtraction and then multiplication by counting groups of objects in multiples of 2s, 5s and 10s.
These week the children have completed their phonics check and we are very proud of how hard they have all worked.
Next week is Art Week and we will all be taking part in drawing and painting for our new corridor art.
Our final year one reading event will be next Thursday morning (22nd June). Please come along from 9am (it will last approx. 30-40 minutes) and wear comfortable shoes!

Week beginning 5th June
Welcome to the final half term of year one! We hope you all have a lovely break and enjoyed the sunshine.
This week is International Week and we will be learning all about the Caribbean. The children have made pineapple and banana muffins and compared what it's like to live in the Caribbean compared to the UK. We will also be looking at the different animals that live in the Caribbean and creating our own piece of Caribbean art work.
Next week the Year 1 phonic checks will begin. Please keep practicing with your children- there are lots of lovely fun game online that you can access via phonics play.
On Thursday 22nd June we have our final Reading Event. We are hoping for good weather. We hope to see you all there.

Week beginning 15th May
This week in English we have been reading the story Jasper's Beanstalk written by Nick Butterworth. The children all planted their own magic seed and thought about what it could grow into. The children then used adjectives to describe what had grown and have all written their own short story.
In maths we have been recapping halves and quarters and sharing amounts equally.
Next Monday 22nd May are our class photographs- please send children in full school uniform.
We still have over 20 squares left to sell for our fundraiser. We would like to sell as many as possible so if you would like any more please see a member of the year one team.
We break up for half term Friday 26th May and return Monday 5th June for our final half term in year one.

Week beginning 8th May
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our maths event on Wednesday morning. We hope you enjoyed the variety of activities- we know all of the children really enjoy having you in school.
We still have numbers available on our fundraising square. It is £1 a number and one lucky winner will win £30. The rest of the money will go towards hatching chicks after half term.
In English this week we have been reading the story The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr. The children have learnt how to write a list of items and also how to use a comma when writing a list within a sentence. The children then retold the story using their own animals that came for tea.
In maths we have been learning all about time. The children have been learning about o'clock and half past and how to draw the hands correctly on a clock.
Next week there is a menu change with a special Pirate lunch on Thursday.

Week beginning 2nd May 2017
This week in English we will be reading the story Tell Me A Dragon written by Jackie Morris. We have recapped on nouns and used adjectives to describe the dragons. This week the children will create their own dragon using adjectives to describe it. They will then use this to write about their very own Dragon.
In maths we have been learning simple multiplication. We use the terminology lots of and repeated addition when counting in 2s and 5s.
In PE we will continue with our dance which links to the story Handa's Surprise.
We hope to see you all next Wednesday 10th May for our Maths event. We will selling numbers on order to raise money for our chick hatching after half term. Numbers are £1 each and one lucky winner will win £30!!
