26th March 2018

Happy Easter!

This week we are reading the Easter story and learning about why Christians celebrate Easter. As part of your home learning you could encourage your child to retell you the story. We will also be making some Easter treats for your children to bring home!

We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday morning for our open morning 9 a.m until 1130 a.m. The children will have their normal break from 1030-1050 a.m but you will be able to enjoy a hot drink (and biscuit!) in the school hall.

This week were lucky enough to have Tommy from Rock Steady in to do a workshop - the children absolutely loved it and some got to enjoy being part of a rock band!

Please remember to keep reading over the Easter break. This can include...
  • school book
  • sharing book
  • chapter book (we have been reading The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton in class)
  • magazines
  • recipes
  • instructions
  • shops signs/ street names whilst out and about
  • food labels whilst shopping and cooking
  • menus in restaurants
  • tricky words
  • phonics

If you lucky enough to be going away over the Easter holidays please send us in some photographs (especially if it is within the UK!). These can be emailed to rellis37ru@nsix.org.uk or you can send the photographs in for us to copy.

We are still in need of donations so if you have any of the following we would be extremely grateful....

  • toy cars
  • kitchen role play or old pots, pans and utensils
  • bug hunting equipment
  • plastic toys such as dinosaurs and mini beasts
  • natural resources such as clean sticks, pine cones, pebbles and different leaves
  • children's gardening tools

Big Sing
Here are some more lyrics for you to practice at home...

Boys and Girls

I'm looking in the mirror and I think I'm liking what I see.
Big pink lights shining bright, like I'm on the TV.
My heart pumps as the bass drum thumps,
You gotta move when the floorboard jumps.
Something's going on and I think it's going on right now.

All the boys and the girls, they got it going on,
And when the beat kicks in you feel it your bones.
And when the basement cracks and the needle drops,
You can't turn back and you just can't stop.
All the boys and the girls, (No, you just can't stop.)
All the boys and the girls, (No, you just can't stop.)
All the boys and the girls.

I can see the silhouettes dancing up against the wall.
It sure feels good, feels good, yeah, we're gonna lose control.
Turn it on, make it strong, a good beat never hurt no-one.
Kicking up the dust and we're making every move we know.
All the boys and the girls, (No, you just can't stop.)
All the boys and the girls, (No, you just can't stop.)
(The boys and the girls.)
Whoa, oh, baby, don't stop now.
Whoa, oh, (Keep the vibe up.)
Whoa, oh, (Baby, don't stop.)
Whoa, oh, (Keep the vibe up.)
Turn it on, (Make it strong,)
A good beat never hurt no-one.

All the boys and the girls, (No, you just can't stop.)
All the boys and the g
irls, no, you just can't stop.

Build It High
We’ve got a problem,
We can work it out.
Let’s get together,
That’s what it’s all about.
Got to build it, build it high.
Got to build it, build it high.

We’ve got a problem,
We can work it out.
Let’s get together,
That’s what it’s all about.
Got to build it, build it high.
Got to build it, build it high.

Don’t give in because you fail your first attempt.
Don’t start shouting, what’s the point in argument?
Let’s stand united, take the challenge in our stride.
Just remember that we’re on the same side.

We’ve got a problem,
We can work it out.
Let’s get together,
That’s what it’s all about.
Got to build it, build it high.
Got to build it, build it high.

Don’t start blaming someone else when things go wrong.
That’s wasting precious time and we don’t have too long.
No use in panic when the situation’s grim,
Trust in teamwork and let the game begin!

We’ve got a problem,
We can work it out.
Let’s get together,
That’s what it’s all about.
Got to build it, build it high.
Got to build it, build it high.

Build it high,
Build it high,
Build it high.

Wonder
I can beat the night, I’m not afraid of thunder,
I am full of light, I am full of wonder.

Woah, oh, I ain't falling under,
Woah, oh, I am full of wonder.

Though our feet might ache, the world's upon our shoulders,
No way we gon' break, 'cause we are full of wonder.

Woah, oh we ain't falling under,
Woah, oh we are full of wonder.

This light is contagious, go, go tell your neighbours,
Just reach out and pass it on, oh yeah, (x3)

This light is contagious, go, go tell your neighbours,
Just reach out and pass it on, yeah.

Woah, oh we ain't falling under,
Woah, oh, we are full of wonder.

When everything feels wrong, and darkness falls upon ya,
Just try sing along, this is a message from Cabana.

If your heart turns blue, I want you to remember,
This song is for you, and you are full of wonder.

Woah, oh we ain't falling under, Woah, oh we are full of wonder. (x2)

19th March 2018

Thank you to all those parents and carers who were able to make it to our second year one reading event. We know that lots of you enjoyed the challenge and the children love getting to spend time with you at school. Please remember that we have our open morning next Wednesday 28th March from 9 a.m until 1130 a.m. The children will have their normal break from 1030-1050 a.m but you will be able to enjoy a hot drink (and biscuit!) in the school hall.

This week the children have been writing their own stories. They have been able to pick their own characters, settings and create their own ideas. These will be on display for our open morning next week.

We have noticed that lots of adults are no longer recording children's reads in the yellow reading record book. We do ask that you read with your child five times a week. Remember that reading isn't just about books and it's more important for them to read little and often then once a week. Here are some ideas for things to read and share with your children...

  • school book
  • sharing book
  • chapter book (we have been reading The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton in class)
  • magazines
  • recipes
  • instructions
  • shops signs/ street names whilst out and about
  • food labels whilst shopping and cooking
  • menus in restaurants
  • tricky words
  • phonics
We appreciate your support with this and as part of your home learning can you read something different each day of the week?

The sun has been out this week and we are really glad that the children have been able to enjoy the outdoor area.

Car park safety
This week we have taken the children outside to remind them to walk through the pedestrian gate and along the path when coming in and out of school. We have had a few parents and staff mention that children are coming in through the larger gate and walking/running across the car park. As you all know it does get very busy as we want all the children to be safe at all times so please reinforce this when coming into and leaving school. Thank you.

Next Wednesday 28th March is the last day of term!

There will be ten songs the children will be learning for the Big Sing. Here are three of the songs to practice and we will add more each week if you would like to practice at home!

Shine

You, you’re such a big star to me,
You’re ev’rything I wanna be,
But you’re stuck in a hole
And I want you to get out.
I don’t know what there is to see,
But I know it’s time for you to leave,
We’re all just pushing along,
Trying to figure it out, out, out.
All your anticipation pulls you down,
When you can have it all,
You can have it all.

So come on, so come on and get it on,
I don’t know what you’re waiting for,
Your time is coming, don’t be late, hey, hey.
So come on, see the light on your face,
Let it shine, just let it shine, let it shine.

Stop being so hard on yourself,
It’s not good for your health,
I know that you can change,
So clear your head and come round.
You only have to open your eyes,
You might just get a big surprise,
And it may feel good
And you might want to smile, smile, smile,
Oh, don’t you let your demons pull you down,
’Cause you can have it all.
You can have it all.

So come on, so come on and get it on,
I don’t know what you’re waiting for,
Your time is coming, don’t be late, hey, hey.
So come on, see the light on your face,
Let it shine, just let it shine, let it shine.

Hey, Hey
let me know you, Let me know you
you’re all that matters to me. You’re all that matters to me
Hey Let me show you, Let me show you
you’re all that matters to me. You’re all that matters

So come on, so come on and get it on,
I don’t know what you’re waiting for,
Your time is coming, don’t be late, hey, hey.
So come on, see the light on your face,
Let it shine, just let it shine, let it shine.

Let me know you, Let me know you
You’re all that matters to me. You’re all that matters to me
Hey Let me show you, Let me show you
you’re all that matters to me.

So come on, so come on and get it on,
I don’t know what you’re waiting for,
Your time is coming, don’t be late, hey, hey.
So come on, see the light on your face,

Let it shine,
just let it shine.
you’re all that matters to me

                                                                             Let it shine

Happy

It might seem crazy what I'm ‘bout to say.
Sunshine she's here, you can take a break.
I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space.
With the air, like I don't care, baby, by the way. Huh.
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you know what happiness is to you.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do.)

Here come bad news talking this and that. (Yeah)
Well, gimme all you got, and don't hold it back. (Yeah)
Well, I should prob’ly warn you I'll be just fine. (Yeah)
No offence to you, don't waste your time, here's why:

Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you know what happiness is to you.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do.)

Happy, (Bring me down, can't nothing,)
Happy, (Bring me down, my level's too high,)
Happy, (Bring me down, can't nothing,)
Happy. (Bring me down, I said, tell you now.)
Happy, happy, happy, happy. (Bring me down, can't nothing,)
Happy, happy, happy, happy. (Bring me down, my level's too high,)
Happy, happy, happy, happy. (Bring me down, can't nothing,)
Happy, happy. (Bring me down, I said.)

Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you know what happiness is to you.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do.) x2

Happy, happy, happy, happy. (Bring me down, can't nothing,)
Happy, happy, happy, happy. (Bring me down, my level's too high,)
Happy, happy, happy, happy. (Bring me down, can't nothing,)
Happy, happy. (Bring me down, I said.)

Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you know what happiness is to you.)
Because I'm happy, (Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do.) (x2)

'Aint No Mountain High Enough

If you need me, call me,
No matter where you are,
No matter how far,
Don’t worry, brother.
Just call out my name,
I’ll be there in a hurry,
You don’t have to worry,
’Cos baby there

Ain’t no mountain high enough,
Ain’t no valley low enough,
Ain’t no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you, babe.

Remember the day, you set me free,
I told you you could always count on me.
From that day on, I made a vow,
I’ll be there when you want me,
Somewhere, somehow.
’Cos baby there

Ain’t no mountain high enough,
Ain’t no valley low enough,
Ain’t no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you, babe,
To keep me from getting to you!

12th March 2018

We can't believe that we are nearing the end of our second term in year 1!

This week in English we have been reading the traditional tale The Frog Prince. The children have been creating their own stories using the frog as a main character. We have encouraged them to think of where the story is set, which other characters are in the story and what happens. We have been really impressed with their creativity and the effort they have put in to their writing.

In math we have been recapping number bonds to 10 and introducing number bonds to 20 (two numbers that add up to 20 e.g. 12+8=20, 10+10=20). We have set a 2do on purple mash with a bubble bond number game which your children can complete if they like. Remember that the log in details can be found on the front of home learning books. As part of your home learning you could practice number bonds to 20 using toys such as lego or pencils and see how many different ways you can split them up. If children are keen to record these as number sentences then they can in the yellow home learning books.

Due to the bad weather we have been unable to use our outdoor area but with the warming weather we will be using it more often. The children have enjoyed being outside this week and it was lovely to see them working together to watch birds using the binoculars, using calculators to make numbers and pretend to be spies and go bug hunting!

We are keen to continue improving this area so we would be grateful of any donations of...

  • toy cars
  • kitchen role play or old pots, pans and utensils
  • bug hunting equipment
  • plastic toys such as dinosaurs and mini beasts
  • natural resources such as clean sticks, pine cones, pebbles and different leaves
  • children's gardening tools
We will be holding a fundraiser in the summer term to help us raise funds to buy some of the things on the children's wish list.

As you will have seen the trim tail is now open! Please remember that we ask children not to play on the field and equipment before school to stop them bringing in mud! Thank you for your support with this.

Next Monday is our second reading event in the school hall. Please join us from 2.15pm.

5th March 2018

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND IN THE SLIPS FOR EASTER LUNCH AND NORSE TASTING- THESE WERE SENT OUT ATTACHED TO THE NEWSLETTER.
Thank you!

Wow- what a busy week after a few days off from the snow! We spent Monday finishing off our plant paintings and fact sheets. We think you'll be impressed by the creative designs! Over the next two weeks we are also all taking part in painting our baby hare (known as a leveret) which the children have named Hairy MacHarey!

Class RE
Class HP

In English this week we have been learning lots of facts about space! We have learnt things such as...

-The sun is a star and not a planet.
- Saturn has 7 rings made from ice and rock.
- Venus is the hottest planet.
Each child has made a Space Facts books!
As part of your home learning (and to go alongside the Big Talk) you could ask the children what they have learnt this week about space. There are some lovely websites with lots of information on about our solar system. Can they find out about any of the other planets?

In Maths this week we have been learning about time. We have recapped on days of the week and measures of time and been learning about clocks. We have each made a clock and talked about the different features. We have been learning to tell the time to o'clock and drawing the hands on to clocks. As part of your home learning you can encourage your child to talk about the different things they do and the times they do them. They could even practice telling the time using their clocks (we will send these home at the end of the week!). We have been using the words clockwise, hands, o'clock, clock face.

Please remember to send PE kits in for dance every Tuesday- especially those doing sporting after school clubs.

Please remember to read as often as possible at home. We have seen such a great improvement since the start of year 1 and the children are always excited to learn new words and change book bands!
