Week beginning 26th June 2017

This week in English we are reading the story 'What Ever Next' by Jill Murphy. This is a story about a bear who goes into space in a cardboard box. This week the children are creating their own characters, setting and adventure to write their own story.

In maths we have been recapping on addition and subtraction, time, money and shape. At home please continue counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and recognising higher numbers.

This week the children will be rehearsing for next weeks concerts.
Monday 3rd - Mrs Prophets class
Tuesday 4th Mrs Ellis's class

We would like to thank everyone that was able to attend the final year 1 reading event. We hope you have enjoyed all of the events that we have held this year. If you have feedback about any of these events please speak to a member of the year 1 team.

Week beginning 12th June

This week in English we have read the story of The Snail and the Whale by Julie Donaldson. We have been teaching the children about verbs - doing words and found these within the story. We have also talked about past tense verbs which end in -ed (e.g. walked, splashed, jumped) and used these to write a post card for a journey which we have been on.

In maths we have been recapping addition and subtraction and then multiplication by counting groups of objects in multiples of 2s, 5s and 10s.

These week the children have completed their phonics check and we are very proud of how hard they have all worked.

Next week is Art Week and we will all be taking part in drawing and painting for our new corridor art.

Our final year one reading event will be next Thursday morning (22nd June). Please come along from 9am (it will last approx. 30-40 minutes) and wear comfortable shoes!

Week beginning 5th June

Welcome to the final half term of year one! We hope you all have a lovely break and enjoyed the sunshine.

This week is International Week and we will be learning all about the Caribbean. The children have made pineapple and banana muffins and compared what it's like to live in the Caribbean compared to the UK. We will also be looking at the different animals that live in the Caribbean and creating our own piece of Caribbean art work.

Next week the Year 1 phonic checks will begin. Please keep practicing with your children- there are lots of lovely fun game online that you can access via phonics play.

On Thursday 22nd June we have our final Reading Event. We are hoping for good weather. We hope to see you all there.
